  • The Tannadice lads knocked the stuffing out of their Ibrox counterparts with an exhilarating example of what can be done on a great occasion. Frost and snow covered the ground at Tannadice as United showed pluck, perseverance and some very commendable football to come back from a half time deficit of one goal. Rangers had their fair share of the blunders in the opening stages, but the biggest of the first half ultimately seemed to come from the referee Mr Innes from Glasgow. Scottish international winger Alan Morton fell to the "carpet" in the penalty area under pressure from Jock Kay, but there was little question of contact from the players or supporters. Despite this, a penalty was awarded and Andy Cunningham, for the Light Blues, stuck the chance away. From the restart, Micky Campbell missed a chance to equalise when he headed a Tommy Simpson cross wide.
