Biography

Chris began his playing days with local teams competing in East Kilbride youth football, playing mostly for Calderwood Bluestar. In 2005, he joined Scottish Junior side Kilbirnie Ladeside of North Ayrshire at the age of 18. Four years later he signed his first professional contract, joining Partick Thistle on a one year deal following a series of trial games. His form earned him a regular place under manager Ian McCall, and he remained a mainstay under new manager Jackie McNamara, winning a contract extension that would keep him at Firhill until 2013.

Jackie McNamara left Partick Thistle for United in February of the 2012/13 season, and on April 16th, Chris agreed to sign up with his former gaffer at United on a pre-contract. He joined up with his new colleagues during the following pre-season.

Chris made nine appearances during his first season and in January 2014 he was loaned out to his former club Partick Thistle for the remainder of the campaign. An impressive pre-season and a scoring start to the 2014-15 season saw him earn a regular place in the United starting lineup following his return. Under new manager Mixu Paatelainen he failed to make an impression and after a few months he agreed a pre-contract with former club Partick Thistle.

Timeline

  • Date of Birth

Chris was born on this date in Rutherglen.

  • Signed For Dundee United

Chris began his playing days with local teams competing in East Kilbride youth football, playing mostly for Calderwood Bluestar. In 2005, he joined Scottish Junior side Kilbirnie Ladeside of North Ayrshire at the age of 18. Four years later he signed his first professional contract, joining Partick Thistle on a one year deal following a series of trial games. His form earned him a regular place under manager Ian McCall, and he remained a mainstay under new manager Jackie McNamara, winning a contract extension that would keep him at Firhill until 2013.

  • United's opening match of the season took place at Firhill against newly-promoted Partick Thistle, picking up a point in their first ever game under the new SPFL Premiership. There were competitive debuts for six of Jackie McNamara's new signings, as well as a return to league action in a United shirt for David Goodwillie. The kick off time of 7.45pm on a Friday night did not deter a travelling support of almost 3,000 as the Arabs in attendance turned out to back their team.

  • t was a much changed United side for the visit of St Mirren with Manager Jackie McNamara making four changes to the team that started against Aberdeen. Mark Wilson, John Souttar, Gary Mackay-Steven and Brian Graham all started at Tannadice. Dillon and Watson missed out completely whilst Armstrong and Goodwillie dropped to the bench. Familiar faces in the opposition line up were Steven Thompson and Lee Mair with Danny Grainger listed as a substitute.

  • Following the defeat at Hamilton last weekend, Jackie McNamara rang the changes for United for the visit of Celtic. Club captain Sean Dillon, Scott Fraser, Chris Erskine and Robbie Muirhead all started and there was a place on the bench for youngster Harry Souttar and fit again Ryan Dow. Gary Mackay-Steven was in the starting eleven for Celtic with their new signing, Scott Allan, listed amongst their substitutes.

  • Last Appearance - Dundee 2 - 1 Dundee United

Simon Murray, Edward Ofere and Blair Spittal all came into Mixu Paatelainen’s starting side with Guy Demel missing through injury and Ryan Dow and Billy Mckay left on the bench. The previous week’s loss to Hamilton coupled with Kilmarnock taking all three points over the weekend meant the maths were simple – United had to win tonight to avoid relegation being confirmed at the home of their city rivals.
