Biography

Dundee born, Simon had played with a host of boys clubs including Celtic Boys, Dee Club and United Social before playing youth football and eventually securing his first professional contract with Montrose. He played just one senior game during his time at Links Park before moving to the junior scene on a season long loan with Downfield FC. In 2013, he signed for another junior side, Tayport FC, before moving to Australia for a spell. His goalscoring form at Tayport had caught the eye of Arbroath and in the summer of 2014, he joined the Gayfield Park side.

Six months into the season Simon had scored 18 goals for the SPFL League 2 side, by which time United had secured his signature at Tannadice on a two and half year deal for a reported fee of £50,000. He was loaned back to Arbroath for the remainder of the 2014-15 season following his signing and he finished up as the Red Lichties' top scorer.

Simon joined up with his new United teammates for the 2015-16 pre-season and made his debut as a substitute during the Club's opening game against Aberdeen. It took him just a few more days to open his goalscoring account, notching against Motherwell in a 2-0 win. First team opportunities were limited in his first season, with most games spent coming off the bench. He rounded off his first campaign by hitting a rich vein of form during the post-split fixtures, netting five goals in five games.

  • Date of Birth

Simon was born on this date in Dundee.

  • Signed For Dundee United

Dundee born, Simon had played with a host of boys clubs including Celtic Boys, Dee Club and United Social before playing youth football and eventually securing his first professional contract with Montrose. He played just one senior game during his time at Links Park before moving to the junior scene on a season long loan with Downfield FC. In 2013, he signed for another junior side, Tayport FC, before moving to Australia for a spell. His goalscoring form at Tayport had caught the eye of Arbroath and in the summer of 2014, he joined the Gayfield Park side.

  • The new season kicked off with Jackie McNamara giving debuts to Luis Zwick, Mark Durnan and Coll Donaldson with Rodney Sneijder, Darko Bodul and Simon Murray left on the bench. For Aberdeen, ex United midfielder, Willo Flood returned as captain, with David Goodwillie dropping to the bench.

  • United arrived for their first away match of the season on the back of a narrow defeat to Aberdeen on the opening day of the season. The new away kit was on show for the first time as Manager Jackie McNamara elected to make just two changes. The injured Bilate made way for Bodul up front and Rankin dropped out to be replaced by youngster Fraser.

  • Ray McKinnon’s Dundee United side travelled to the Falkirk Stadium for the second leg of their Premiership Play-off Semi-Final tie with Peter Houston’s Bairns following a 2-2 draw in the first game at Tannadice. United’s previous two visits to Falkirk had ended in 3-1 and 3-0 defeats earlier in the season and a much better performance would be required from the Terrors to progress to the Premiership Play-off Final. There were two changes to the United starting eleven with both full-backs being replaced from the first leg. Young Jamie Robson was dropped in favour of the experience of Paul Dixon and Stewart Murdoch, who had been effectively ruled out for the rest of the season through injury, was replaced by club captain Sean Dillon. Falkirk also made two alterations to their starting line-up with Paul Watson and John Baird coming in for Peter Grant and former United man Lee Miller.

  • Last Appearance - Hamilton 1 - 0 Dundee United

Ray McKinnon made just one change to his starting line-up from the side which had drawn 0-0 with Accies in the first leg of the Premiership Play-off Final with Charlie Telfer replacing Wato Kuate who had effectively been released from his contract following his on-field antics in the Tannadice game. United were relieved to have the services of Simon Murray despite his dismissal on Thursday night with the club appealing his second yellow card for simulation. Martin Canning was forced into making two changes to his side with Grant Gillespie coming in for the injured Massimo Donati and Greg Docherty starting in place of the suspended Darian MacKinnon.
