Andy had been with Morton, Burnley, New York Nationals and then Clyde. In January 1930, United acquired him on loan and at the end of the season he returned to his own club. United tried to sign him but could not afford the £250 price tag. He return to Tannadice in March 1931 on another loan deal from Clyde and his late contribution helped United back into the top flight. He then went back to Clyde
