United were poised to unveil their new ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ kits for 2019/20, manufactured by Macron. However, the pre-season friendlies arrived just a little to soon for the new kit reveal. Therefore, Macron instead provided an alternative shirt for use during the warm up games. The shirt was never registered and was only ever going to be used for non-competitive games at the start of season 2019/20. However, there were no cutting corners when it came to the shirt design, despite knowing it’s usage would be sparse. The kit looked great with many fans commenting that it would have made a popular and successful away kit.
Due to the fact United were to play East Fife, Brechin City and Dumbarton in pre-season, it was clear that all three would clash with tangerine. Therefore, a white shirt was provided by Macron. The shirt was primarily white, but had horizontal grey shading across the front. The grey shaded stripes narrowed towards the bottom of the top, where the white became more prominant. The back of the shirt had no shading. The macron logo and United badge adorned the chest, and the shirt came with the ‘Utilita’ sponsor logo across the front. There was black detailing around the shoulder and under arm, with black sections of material running from the back of the shoulder, round to the underarm. A single black pin stripe ran from armpit to the bottom of the shirt at either side. At the top of each sleeve was a black Macron logo. All the shirts worn during it’s use, were short sleeved.
The collar was a black turn-over which met at a small white v-neck section between the club crest and manufacturers logo. The shirt was worn with plain black shorts that had both the club badge and a white macron logo. The socks were white with no detailing.
A point of note for the excellent pre-season kit was that Lawrence Shankland scored his first goal for the club wearing this shirt. That came against Dumbarton at the C&G Systems Stadium on July 6th 2019. This alternative kit was worn just twice during pre-season of 2019/20. The first match was the 1-1 friendly draw at Bayview against East Fife, then it was used one final time in that match with Dumbarton in July 2019.
