Manufacturer:
Asics

Securicor

This shirt was produced for a single match only. It was created for Paul Hegarty's testimonial match against IFK Gothenburg, played in November 1989. It was very much based on the home design for season 1989/90 but with some subtle differences. Manufactured by Japanese Sportswear Manufacturers ASICS, this shirt was immediately recognisable by the black and white triangular panels on both shoulders.

The first of the two main changes to the standard season's kit was the elimination of the diagonal pattern and shirt manufacturer’s logo shaded throughout the tangerine material. This particular shirt was made of slightly different material. There was no shading in the material in this top, it was just plain tangerine. The other change was to the front of shirt sponsor. The usual Belhaven sponsor logo was replaced for this match only, with 'Securicor', written in black font. At that time Securicor plc was one of the United Kingdom's largest security businesses. The shorts were black, with white and black triangular panels on each side. The socks were tangerine with black trim, and included a white sole. This particular shirt was number 18 and worn by Darren Jackson on the night.

No win for United in this kit but a great night for Paul Hegarty who welcomed our Uefa Cup final opponents, Gothernburg, back to Tannadice. So once again Gothenburg left Tannadice with a Cup — this time the Discovery Cup — put up by Aberlour Whisky for Paul Hegarty's Testimonial Match. On a perfect night for football, the result was somewhat disappointing for the 7,369 who turned out to honour one of the club's finest ever servants.
