This one-off shirt was prepared for Dave Bowman's testimonial match against Dundee at Tannadice on August the 6th, 1995. The kit was essentially the same Pony designed kit that had been used for the previous two seasons, except with a different shirt sponsor.
The Pony kit design was traditional tangerine top with black shorts and tangerine socks. The tangerine top had a zigzag pattern throughout the material, and also had four black and white vertical pinstripes running the length of the shirt. The sleeves ended in thick black cuffs, and collar design, with a rounded crew neck enhanced with a polo style collar.
British car manufacturers Rover had an embossed patch on the front of the standard jersey for that season, however for this match only, it was replaced by a Bett Inns logo. Indeed, on closer inspection of the shirt, the Bett Inns sponsor logo was actually stitched on top of the Rover sponsor. It was a white background patch with Bett Inns printed in dark green text. Bett Inns operated pubs, hotels and a nightclub in Dundee at the time.
The shorts continued the style of the top, with the zigzag pattern and the thick tangerine band at the legs. The socks hada black and white trim at the top.
Just under 5,000 turned up and got a glimpse of the shirt on a warm sunny afternoon to pay tribute to Dave Bowman on the occasion of his Testimonial Match. No game against Dundee will ever be a friendly, no matter the circumstances and the crowd saw a good competitive match and typically of the way he plays the game, Dave Bowman was lectured by the referee along with Paul Tosh after the pair had clashed. United won 2-1 on the day with Craig Brewster scoring the winner. At the end of a satisfactory afternoon all round, man-of-the-moment Dave Bowman collected the JTC Trophy which was put up for his Testimonial Match.
