Biography

A former Celtic youth, Jim had his first real foray into professional football with Stockport County, where he played over 100 games. He spent the next five seasons with Scunthorpe and then Huddersfield, as well as an Oldham Athletic loan spell. In 2010, he moved to Scotland to join Hamilton Academical briefly, before signing for St Mirren where he established himself as a favourite with the Buddies over five years. In 2016, he left to join Alloa Athletic as player/manager, eventually retiring in 2019 due to injury.

Jim guided the Wasps from League One to the Championship and consolidated their position there before returning to St Mirren, this time as manager. At the Paisley club, he held a Premiership place while also pushing the club forward in the cups. In his third season he accepted the job as manager at Aberdeen.

His tenure at Pittodrie was short, winning 13 of 21 games in charge during the first half of the 2022-23 season, and he was sacked at the end of January. Just over a month later, he was appointed as the new manager at United on a deal until the end of the season.

Despite a promising start, United's post-split form ultimately saw the side relegated, but despite their misfortune, the United board retained their faith in Jim and offered him an extension until the summer of 2025.
