For the visit to Livingston, Jim Lauchlan started in place of David McCracken. In midfield, Russell Latapy was recalled into attacking midfield at the expense of Craig Easton, who joined McCracken, Billy Dodds and Mark Wilson on the bench.
From a very early Livingston chance, United took a lead on the counter, scoring in the second minute of play thanks to a header from Jim McIntyre, adding the finishing touch to a cross from Derek Lilley over the top of the home defence. United came close to doubling their lead shortly after McIntyre's cross for Lilley was saved by former United man Alan Main. At the other end, a long range effort from Lee Makel was tipped over by Alan Combe. Jose Camacho for Livingston fired over the bar from a free kick on 20 minutes and a minute later Rolando Zárate shot wide. A chance at the other end for Charlie Miller as held by Main following a corner on 23 minutes and two minutes, Fernando Pasquinelli headed straight at Combe but failed to score. Davide Xausa forced a fine save from Combe ten minutes from time before Latapy passed up the last chance of the half, opting to round a defender before shooting wide.
Livingston started the second half brighter and United were quickly forced on the back foot. Following sustained pressure, the home side looked certain to have equalised when Stuart Lovell's long range strike flew past Combe, but it struck the crossbar and came back out in to play. With twelve minutes left, Livingston finally grabbed an equaliser. Philippe Brinquin beat Stuart Duff on the right flank before his cross met David Bingham, who headed home at the front post. Throwing on Billy Dodds for the remainder of the match, Ian McCall went for the winner and in the last minute of the match it came from captain Charlie Miller, tapping the ball home from close range following a Jim McIntyre cut-back. With mere seconds remaining, United held on to record what was their first win since March.
