Montrose scored a meritorious and well-deserved victory over Dundee Hibs in the Carrie Cup League. They were undoubtedly the better side during the whole of the game. There was plenty of clever football shown by the visiting side, but the absence of their usual backs meant a lot to Hibs, and practically meant their downfall. The halves were a disappointing lot, with the exception of Yule.
The same thing must be said of the home middle division. Inglis was all right; indeed, he was the best half on the field, and he was ably backed by Clark and McKenzie. But it was Milne in the front rank who practically won the game for Montrose. He was in great form, and repeatedly ploughed his way through the opposition. Burness and Murray were also seen to good advantage. Neither goalkeeper was troubled much, while the defence was good. The pick of the attack was Sheridan, and he had to be carefully watched. The quintette played too close a game.
