Conceding goals late on in matches have proved costly this season and this was another example. Making it even more galling was the fact that the match could have been wrapped up even although Robbie Winters opener didn't arrive until well into the final twenty minutes of the match.
Tommy McLean's call for the side to impose themselves in the match from the start almost brought a goal after 30 seconds, Kjell Olofsson striking the top of the bar from Robbie Winters cross from the right.
Lemajic after being injured in an accidental collision with Kjell Olofsson was replaced by Ian Westwater in goal eleven minutes before the interval, but it was Lance Key who was called into action when he saved a Petrie shot at the second attempt. Right on the interval Andy Smith emulated Kjell Olofsson by striking the top of the crossbar from Britton's headed knockdown.
Immediately after the interval. United were much more penetrative. Neil Dufty headed a Maurice Malpas cross inches over and Westwater smothered a shot from the edge of the box by Lars Zetterlund. That was the first of several fine saves the substitute keeper made to deny United, particularly to keep out an Andy McLaren drive from a Robbie Winters' flick.
The goal which had threatened finally arrived 19 minutes from time.Robbie Winters ran in to head home a cross from Andy McLaren on the right. Both Robbie Winters and Lars
Zetterlund had chances to increase the lead and we paid the penalty for not doing so when Dunfermline equal ised three minutes from the end. Petrie crossed from the left and Andy Smith directed a header down which bounced over Lance Key's arms to give the Pars a point when a United victory looked, and should have been in the bag.
