Match Report
United's solid performance carried them back into fourth place. Motherwell were left to rue two golden opportunities which Billy Davies scorned. The first of these was immediately before Robbie Winters fashioned an absolutely sensational opener for Gary McSwegan. He showed his searing pace leaving five defenders in his wake to slip the ball into Gary McSwegan who merely had to guide the ball home. The goal which sealed victory came midway through the second, half when David Hannah directed a header from an Andy McLaren corner through the legs of Gary McSwegan who was virtually on the goal line.
