Match Report

United handed a debut to new French signing Stephane Leoni at right back as they looked to overcome a horrible run of early season form at Rugby Park.

It was a spirited start from United but all too often misplaced passes let them down. Jason De Vos, Alphonse Tchami and Steven Thompson all threatened Gordon Marshall's goal during the opening quarter but hosts Kilmarnock went ahead when Ally Mitchell punished a mistake from De Vos after 30 minutes. Thompson struck the post 5 minutes later following good play by Joachim Fernandez but the Tangerines were unable to restore parity ahead of half time.

Mvondo Atanagana, a replacement for countryman Tchami was causing Killie a few problems but lacked support up front. The striker looked to be in on 66 minutes after latching onto a short Mitchell backpass but Marshall blocked. Christophe Cocard hit the post in 72 minutes following Andy McLaren’s cross as United clung onto hope of a point. Craig Easton then blasted over in 74 minutes following a Fernandez corner before Atangana headed Hasney Aljofree’s cross over from a good position. The last chance for United came in the 89th minute when Tassos Venetis sent Atangana clear but he couldn't make the opportunity count and the visitrs again left without the points.
