Match Report

Alex Smith replaced Craig Easton (suspended) and Sean O’Connor (injured) with David Hannah and Neil Heaney in an effort to build on last Saturday’s win over Dunfermline. Stephen McConalogue kept his place in attack alongside Beto Naveda.

Killie ‘keeper Marshall raced from goal in the opening minute to clear from Naveda. United had opened brightly, and were playing some good football, clearly lifted by last Saturday’s result. In the sixteenth minute Hannah had a chance when a McConalogue cross was cleared to his feet but he hesitated and Hessey intervened. Two minutes later a mis-placed Aljofree back-header gave the visitors their first corner which ultimately was cleared by Lauchlan. On the 25th minute mark Charlie Miller hit the bar with a superb 30 yard strike as United turned the screw.Soon after, a terrific eighteen yard strike from Dargo was tipped over the bar by Combe for a corner. United cup hero Andy McLaren almost scored from the bye-line with a cross-cum-shot which grazed the bar and was dealt with by Aljofree.

Both teams were unchanged for the re-start of what had been an entertaining match. A superb run by United new boy Miller in fifty-eight minutes, which involves a 1-2 with Naveda, gave Charlie a scoring chance but he shot straight at Marshall. Two minutes later a McConalogue cross looked set for Naveda but Marshall caught well. In the sixty-ninth minute recent signing Jamie Fullarton went down and had lengthy pain-relieving treatment before eventually being stretchered off with a broken leg. He was replaced by Venetis. Killie went one goal up in the 84th minute when a Hay cross was turned in by Craig Dargo in the six yard box. A minute later United sent on Atangana for Heaney in an effort to get an equaliser. A great Miller strike in injury time produced a great save from Marshall who turned it round the right hand post.
