Kelham O'Hanlon making his debut in goal was one of four changes in the Tannadice line-up and the newcomer was to enjoy virtually a shot free afternoon with Kilmarnock rarely mounting any attacks of note.
The Tangerines went ahead after 29 minutes when Gordan Petric rose to head an Andy McLaren corner on target and it didn't really look as though he needed the additional assistance of Brian Welsh's knee to count, but that didn't stop him claiming his second goal of the season.
United ruled the roost in that first period to the extent that Killie's only shot on goal was a 25 yarder from Henry.
Early in the second half, Geddes fisted away a shot from David Hannah who was returning from suspension. The home side then began to dominate play, but they lacked the guile or enterprise to break down a solid looking Tannadice rearguard. On the break, United and Andy McLaren in particular, looked dangerous. One of his efforts was deflected into the path of Dragutin Ristic, but Geddes kept out his low shot with his foot. Killie forced United back during the last ten minutes, but failed to create any real chances and at the other end Geddes twice produced great saves to keep out Andy McLaren.
The second of those was made at the expense of a corner and when from Andy McLaren's kick, Dragutin Ristić rose to head high into the top corner at the far post to ensure United's first away points of the season.
Golac commented, "It was quite a good team performance, but we should have killed the game much earlier"
