Match Report

A brilliantly taken goal by David Goodwilliie deep into the six minutes of time added on salvaged a point at Pittodrie this afternoon. And not even the most dyed in the wool Arab could deny that United had got out of jail. With Garry Kenneth in for stand-in defender Jon Daly the only change from the side that had been unlucky not to win at Easter road, United started brightly enough. New Aberdeen Craig Brown was looking for a third successive wins - the best start by a Pittodrie boss since Billy McNeill in the mid seventies. Meanwhile United were looking for their first victory since beating Hamilton on the first Saturday in November.

Only a great stop by Dons keeper Jamie Langfield to deny David Goodwillie after three minutes prevented Houstie's team again taking an early lead. But that was one of the few chances United had in what was a very poor performance. Not that Aberdeen troubled Dusan Pernis all that much. Indeed, the goal that gave Dons the lead eight minutes from halftime followed a dreadful error by Keith Watson whose stray passback fell perfectly for Chris Maguire who danced round Dusan Pernis before knocking the ball into the empty net.

With it remaining that way at the interval, boss Peter Houston brought on Jon Daly for Morgaro Gomis and switched from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2. Unfortunately, it was Aberdeen who dominated the second half and being honest, it was hard to see where a United goal would come from as the game went into the six minutes of added time due following Yoann Folly being stretchered off with a broken ankle following a challenge by Paul Dlxon. But in the 95th minute, salvation was at hand when Daly headed down a Dixon cross from which David Goodwillie acrobatically lashed home from 12-yards to send the sizeable Arab support into raptures of relief.

Man of the Match: Given the the lack of service he had, David Goodwillie gets it for getting us out of jail with his late strike.
