Match Report

Maurice Malpas made his 500th appearance in a tangerine jersey and skippered us to a wholly deserved share of the spoils at Ibrox. True, there was an early scare for us in the 3rd minute when Hateley got on the end of a Huistra corner, but Jim Mclnally, making a speedy return after injury, cleared his header off the line. Five minutes later there was another narrow escape, but this time at the other end. Gary Bollan crossed from the left, Dave Bowman met it at the back post and Duncan Ferguson only just failed to connect to put us ahead.

The aerial threat of Mark Hateley again manifested itself in the 12th minute when he headed a Robertson cross just over. In the 17th minute Andy Goram pulled off the first of two quite tremendous saves. First Christian Dailly took a Duncan Ferguson knock down to fire in a shot which Goram just managed to turn round the post. Sixteen minues later Goram excelled himself when he somehow kept out a crashing drive from Billy McKinlay, standing on the edge of the penalty area. In between those narrow escapes, Alan Main turned a shot from Mikhailichenko round the post.

As the first half, in which we had the edge came to a close, Rangers took the lead against the run of play when Ally McCoist ran to a huge Nisbet clearance upfield and he evaded Fieddy Van Der Hoorn's challenge to hammer the ball past Alan Main. Our appeals for handball fell on stoney ground. Rangers, no doubt spurred by that goal opened the second half aggressively, but as they had one in the first half, now it was our turn to score against the run of play. Billy McKinlay floated over a comer which Mixu Pattelainen, who'd come on six minutes earlier for Christian Dailly, headed down. Duncan Ferguson pounced to score after Goram could only parry the ball out. Apart from Hateley hitting the post immediately afterwards, there were few other goalmouth incidents as the match petered out to the draw which general consensus agreed, was a fair result
