Match Report

An unchanged side from the one which beat Celtic was fielded against Hibs. However. John Clark replaced Michael O'Neill on the bench. Hibs entered this fixture in the wake of two heavy defeats at the hands of Motherwetl and Celtic and were obviously anxious to avoid a hat-trick of defeats. Those reversals apart Hibs have been finding goals very difficult to come by. Their tally of nine in the previous 16 games, being one less than Darren Jackson's haul! Unfortunately, neither of these statistics was to show any change after ninety minutes play. A Dave Bowman corner in the sixth minute brought the first threat on goal. When his cross came over Gijs Steinmann found himself given free range, but he directed his header wide of the target. Andy Goram then smothered a shot from Darren Jackson after Jim Mclnally had fed the ball through to him.

Hibs first chance of the match came after quarter of an hour when a Weir cross fell for Fellinger on the left hand side of the goal Alan Main had to react quickly to turn his shot round the near post. The Hibs centre went even closer on the half hour mark. When his shot from almost the same spot struck the outside of the post. From then until the interval we dominated play. Goram saved well from Dailly at his left hand post and a minute later Scotland's international keeper found himself even further extended. Jim Mclnally won possession from McGinlay and slipped the ball wide left to Darren Jackson, but Goram beat the drive away for a corner. The first half ended with a concentrated spell of pressure by the Tangerines. The second half produced less by way of goalmouth incident. Darren Jackson did net, but was pulled up for an earlier offence in the same way as Hibs had been in the first half after Findlay had netted. So the match came to a goalless conclusion as had our last visit there at the beginning of 1990.
