Because of renovation work at Firhill, their floodlights were out of action, so the tie was switched to Kilbowie. This is the fourth successive season in which we have met Partick Thistle in the Skol Cup, but this was the first time it hadn't been in the opening round. Whilst we had made most of the early running and Duncan had made a fine save from Darren Jackson and Brian Welsh had struck the top of the cross-bar, it was Thistle who almost took the lead. The fact they didn't was attributable to a quite outstanding save by Billy Thomson back in goal after an eleven month absence. He palmed away a high powered angular drive from Peebles. A minute before half-time we struck, or rather Christian Dailly did, with a goal of remarkable similarity to Kevin Galtacher's epic against Barcelona. Christian chased Freddy Van Der Hoorn's long ball out of defence cut in from the right and screwed a cross past Duncan into the side of the net.
A fine move down the right brought us a second goal in the 59th minute and when Michael O'Neill's cross came over Christian Dailly rose to head against the bar. However, Darren Jackson was on hand to stoop and head the rebound past Duncan from close-in. Twelve minutes from the end Chic Charnley rifled home a free-kick, but before Thistle could capitalise further we put the tie beyond reach. Law brought down Jackson and Freddy van der Hoorn followed Charnley's example and blasted the free-kick into the corner of the net. It was Freddy's first goal for almost a year and his first in the Skol Cup.
