Match Report
United Wing Half Andy Tait opened the scoring after just 30 seconds at Fir Park, but after that it was one way traffic. Scotland international - and future United forward - Wilson Humphries scored a quick-fire hat-trick, and with a Willie Redpath penalty and a brace from John Hunter, the home side went in at the interval 6-1 up. The same players repeated the scoring after the break, Humphries finishing with six, Hunter with four and Redpath grabbing a second penalty.
Joe Locherty, signed from Sheffield Wednesday just the day before, made his debut that day, and it turned out to be his only appearance for United. The post match comments from United were that the team had not played that badly - this result still stands as the clubs worst ever defeat.
