The opening of the George Fox Stand saw United turn on some of their most fluent football of recent years. From the moment that Duncan Ferguson gave us a 15th minute lead, for almost an hour we played an incisive and flowing brand of football. The goal itself did have a touch of good fortune attached to it. Hogg failed to cut out a through ball from Paddy Connolly and the ball ran on to its intended target, John O'Neil. There was, however, nothing fortuitous regarding John's measured cross nor Duncan Ferguson's clinical finish.
Despite our domination Hearts always had a chance while it remained 1-0 and their concerted spell of pressure midway through the second period brought them back to level terms. Ironically, in hindsight it was Scott Crabbe who supplied the ammunition from a free-kick from which Craig Levein headed in the visitors' equaliser. Hearts barely deserved a share of the points, but little did we know that this would set the trend in meetings with the Tynecastle outfit. This was to be the only point we'd take from Hearts, despite totally dominating all four encounters.
