Despite the scoreline, this game wasn't lacking in thrills with a share of the points no more or no less than both sides deserved. We opened well showing few signs of the midweek exertions of the Skol Cup tie forcing three corners within the first five minutes. From the last of these Paul Hegarty rose to head the ball, but his effort went over. Two minutes later Tommy Burns collected a ball cleared by his own defenders and strode clear before letting fly, but Billy Thomson pushed his effort for a corner. Our best chance of the game came in the 14th minute. Dave Narey's intended pass to Bannon struck Paul McStay and into the path of Paul Sturrock. Paul closed in on goal and hammered in a shot from the edge of the box, but McKnight managed to touch the ball over.
lain Ferguson was unlucky to see his shot on the turn fly fractionally wide. Tommy Burns sent in a tremendous shot two minutes from half-time. Billy Thomson dived full length to save, but had to
concede a corner. McStay's corner was met by McGhee, who headed wide from a good position.
Early in the second half Billy Thomson was in action again, saving from Morris. One of the best moves of the game almost produced a goal for us. lain Ferguson began it with to Bowman who in turn
fed Kevin Gallacher on the right, and his cross was met by Eamonn Bannon, whose shot was only inches wide. McKnight then averted danger, finger-tipping a Gallacher cross away. As times ran out both sides had their chances, but the defenders held firm and a draw was appreciated by the two sides who had experienced the bitterness of a Skol Cup exit in midweek.
