Match Report

We gained our third away victory of the season thanks to a superb move which was finished off in equally fine fashion by lain Ferguson. There was rarely any danger of us losing this match against a side which had only scored one goal in its last seven games. Morton started well enough and Billy Thomson had to look lively to collect an awkwardly bouncing ball from Alexander. Wylie at the opposite end then did well to block both lain Ferguson and then Jim McInally. As pressure mounted on the home goal Wylie made saves from Iain Ferguson and Dave Bowman. In Morton's best raid of the half Boag shot just wide. Wylie again came to the rescue when he charged out of the box to deny both Paul Sturrock and John Clark.

Although we controlled the game as the second half progressed we found it difficult to carve open the home defence, until the 65th minute. Jim McInally broke down the right and his first time cross into the middle was hooked over Wylie's head by Iain Ferguson. Later John Clark appeared to be fouled in the box, but the referee waved play on. Apart from a late surge by Morton which forced Billy Thomson to save at Turner's feet, we ran out more comfortable winners than the score suggests.
