It is almost thirty years since we lost a competitive match to Hamilton and after seventeen minutes there was little danger of Hamilton ending that record. By then we were three goals ahead and coasting. The rout started in the fifth minute. Dave Bowman and Kevin Gallacher combined on the right and Mixu Paatelainen fairly hammered the ball in at the near post. Mixu supplied the ammunition for our second in the 13th minute. He released Kevin Gallacher who cut in from the left before chipping the ball over Alan Rough from the edge of the box. Four minutes later and we went three up. Billy McKinlay swung over a cross from the left to the far post and Kevin Gallacher nodded the ball down past Rough.
Early in the second period Hamilton had a let off when Kevin Gallacher, Hamish French and Mixu Paatelainen all had efforts blocked by a combination of defenders and the woodwork. However, further goals were inevitable and Kevin Gallacher completed his hat-trick in the 60th minute when he netted the rebound after Hamish French''s shot had struck the bar. Goal number five came thirteen minutes from the end when a cross from Kevin Gallacher was sweetly volleyed by Jim McInally past Rough for his first goal of the season.
