It may have taken a freak goal in injury time to salvage our unbeaten run, but I doubt if any one could have made out a case that we didn't deserve, at least, a share of the spoils.
The first half, in particular, was a story of tangerine domination, though we found it difficult to make real inroads on goal until Maurice Malpas let fly with a volley which was blocked. Five minutes later Rangers took the lead against the run of play when Stuart Munro found space on the left and beat Dave Bowman before despatching the ball into the far corner after 38 minutes. Two minutes before half-time our appeals for a penalty went unheeded after Maurice Malpas went down in the box.
The match developed into a midfield battle and Rangers came more into the match in an attacking sense and Billy Thomson tipped over a Walters cross cum shot and John Clark made a goal-line clearance from an Ian Ferguson shot. At the other end Mixu Paatelainen shot past and in the last ten minutes we took command again. Jim Mclnally shot past; John Brown cleared Kevin Gallacher's shot off the line and as time appeared to have beaten us, came a life-line. John Clark hoisted the ball from his own half high upfield. Richard Gough missed his header, and as Gary Stevens attempted to guide the ball back to Walker, it came off his shoulder and beat Walker for a deserved, if unexpected, equaliser.
