A carnival atmosphere and free admission for the final match of the season attracted 11,503, but it was demoted Accies, who were smiling at the end of the day with rare Tannadice success, their first over us in a Premier match.
We felt behind after 12 minutes, when Paul Hegarty was adjudged to have tripped McDonald and referee Andrew Waddell immediately pointed to the spot. Colin Harris calmly swept home the penalty award.
Accies immediately constructed a red and white human wall in front of their goal. Paddy Connolly did pierce the barrier to bring out a fine save by Ferguson who brilliantly diverted his shot over the bar shortly before half-time. Hamilton should have gone two ahead early in the second half, but McDonald's shot strayed narrowly past the post.
Paddy Connotly was brought down by Weir in the box but our pleas for a penalty were in vain. We battled hard for the elusive equaliser, but it was at our end that another goal almost came, when in a rare raid, Prentice broke clear to hammer the ball against an upright.
