Tannadice twins, Sandy and Joe White made history this afternoon when they played together in the same side for the first time. While Sandy had played 6 times already for United, this was to be Joe's debut for the club.
Aberdeen took a strangle hold of the game early on and it was 'keeper McAlpine who rescued United within minutes of kick off. Robb knocked the ball down for Harper but his shot was saved spectacularly by McAlpine. Harper went close again when he struck the post after another Robb lay off. It was all Aberdeen for the first 20 minutes of this match and they succeeded in winning 7 corners during this period. Traynor did relieve the pressure with a run from half way but his shot was intercepted before play resumed in the United half. It was no surprise that in 24 minutes, Aberdeen opened the scoring. George Murray collected a short corner and his chip into the box was nodded home by Steve Murray.
The second half continued as the first finished, with Aberdeen on the front foot. Robb was the sinner for the Dons, missing numerous gilt edged chances. The Red's domination paid off in 67 minutes when they doubled their lead. this time it was Alex Willoughby who broke free to fire home. A fine afternoon for the home side was completed in the dying minutes when Joe Harper scored a third from the spot.
