United shot themselves out of the danger area, with the spectre of relegation now almost certainly avoided. The rain poured down on Fir Park throughout this match, making playing conditions near impossible for both sets of players. The three points United collected in Lanarkshire in the past 6 days moved them from bottom of the table strugglers to the relative safety of the middle.
United looked safe and strong in the opening 45 minutes. Despite the conditions, Copland, Smith and Gray strolled through the first half and never looked troubled. In the attacking half, United looked sharp with great off the ball movement. In ten minutes a great through ball released Mitchell who couldn't believe his luck. However, as attempted to stop and turn he lost his footing and the opportunity was gone.
The second half followed a similar pattern and but it wasn't until ten minutes from time when the deadlock was broken. The winner came from the away side and it was Archie Knox who hit home to delight of the small band of travelling supporters.
