Sandy White for Jim Cameron (50)

The first half in this game was little to write home. East Fife had most of the opening 45 minutes and they were defied by the agile McAlpine, poor shooting and bad luck. Twice United kicked clear on the line; twice the keeper charged out from goal to thwart the unchallenged Hegarty and Honeyman.
The decisive incident in this match occurred only a minute after the interval, East Fife now kicking towards the Buckhaven end. Copland fouled Honeyman just outside the box. Borthwick tapped a short free-kick to his left and Billy McPhee's low shot screamed across McAlpine's charge into the corner. This brought their seasons tally to 13 from 12 games. An uninspired United only came to life when they went behind - and Sandy White substituted for J. Cameron. But Ernie McGarr, making his home first-team debut in goal, kept a clean scoresheet, despite getting two stitches in an eye injury for his pains.
