For the third year running we eliminated our City rivals from the Scottish Cup and this was undoubtedly, achieved with greater ease than the scorelines indicate.
All the early exchanges were in midfield and the first attack of note came in the 19th minute. Mixu Paatelainen broke clear on the left and sent over a cross which Raphael Meade headed past the far post. Our opening goal came in the 32nd minute and again Mixu Paatelainen featured in its foundations. Mixu's run down the left before crossing. Kevin Gallacher couldn't reach the ball, but managed to collect it on the right and his return cross into the middle was only partially cleared to Dave Bowman, whose controlled volley streaked past Geddes.
This prompted further activity around Geddes and the Dundee 'keeper did well to keep out a shot from Mixu Paatelainen. Our grip on the game tightened in the second half and five minutes after the re-start we went further ahead. Kevin Gallacher sent Miodrag Krivokapic away on the right and the Yugoslavs cross into the middle was missed by Mixu Paatelainen, but not by Raphael Meade who directed a header into the far post. We were well in command until the 73rd minute when Dundee pegged a goal back. Wes Saunders was brought down just outside the box and Ian Angus struck the free-kick low past Billy Thomson's left. Dundee mounted a series of attacks but rarely threatened to score again.
