The disastrous opening to the season had prompted the resignation of manager Willie McFadyen after nine years service, consequently, it was a manger-less United that wound up what-remains our we Cup campaign.
Only a 3-1 win at home to Dunfermline had presented a total blank from five previous sectional games. Unfortunately, our sixth and final outing against Brechin failed to reap any further reward. The Glebe Park side completing a League Cup double with a 1-0 victory, after their 2-0 success at Glebe Park in the first meeting. Regrettably, the trend of League Cup results was to prove indicative of the whole season.
