Match Report

The newly renamed Jerry Kerr Stand was officially opened as Dundee United took on full strength English Premiership side Everton at Tannadice.

United started well and tested early on through Danny Griffin and a Jim McIntyre header. However, Everton would have arguably the best chance of the first half. Scot Gemmill sent Radzinski through. He burst past Griffin and rounded Paul Gallacher. Fortunately for United, Alan Archibald was on hand to put the ball behind for a corner with a well timed tackle.

With five minutes of the second half played, Barry Robson won the ball on the United left and gave it to Archibald. The defender then sprinted forward to lay in a perfect ball for the waiting Collin Samuel who slipped the ball into the net at the near post from six yards out. Later in the half the introduction of former United star Duncan Ferguson brought huge cheers from the Arabs in the stands. However, the former Tannadice favourite wouldn't find the net in the game. Leon Osman almost found an equaliser for the Merseyside men. Thankfully for United, his powerful strike came back out off the inside of the post.
