As in the last two visits to Easter Road, a point looked to be the least we could expect as the game entered its final stages, but yet again we left the Capital with nothing. Not that the day had got off to the best of starts after a hazardous journey through a combination of gales and floods on our way to Easter Road and the game started in like manner. With eight minutes on the clock we fell behind to a tremendous strike by Darren Jackson against his former colleagues. If Hibs held the upper hand in the opening half hour, then it was our turn to dominate afterwards, and ten minutes from the interval came confirmation of our recovery with the equaliser. The goal belonged entirely to Jim McInally. Not only did he engineer it, but he also put the finishing touches to it! Reid's poor kick out prompted hesitancy in the home defence. Jim Mclnally pounced, sent a pass out to Duncan Ferguson on the left and Jim was on the end of the cross when it came over to send a header into the far corner.
We now had control of proceedings, but with around twenty minutes left Hibs got back into the game and proceeded to get a fortuitous winner. The fierce wind which had made conditions so difficult all afternoon, caused Brian Welsh to misjudge a long ball. Darren Jackson got the break of the ball from his attempted clearance. Even then the former United striker's cross looked to be going out at the far post, but McGinlay hooked the ball back'and disaster struck as Freddy Van der Hoorn turned the ball into his own goal. So our bad run at Easter Road was extended to nine matches there without a win and perhaps the sooner Hibs move to Straiton the better!
