You often hear supporters claim that the opposition only had one shot at goal and won. Well this was literally true as Hearts stole a win thanks to a sheer piece of opportunism by John Robertson. United set about dictating proceedings from the first whistle and created a host of chances most of which fell to Grant Johnson who was back in the side for the first time since being injured. Before Hearts scored they had not been seen as an attacking force and almost unbelievably they went ahead with their first serious goal attempt.
Baird got a touch to Snodin's free kick and the ball fell to John Robertson who wheeled to volley the ball home. As if to illustrate that it wasn't going to be our day,John O'Neil, who had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down earlier, then netted only to be ruled offside. Five minutes from time Levein was red-carded as he brought Paddy Connolly's darting run through the middle to an abrupt halt on the edge of the box, but John Clark's free-kick was deflected over and with it went our hopes of salvaging a point.
