Duncan Ferguson returned to the first team after a month's absence, but it was Paddy Connolly who stole the show. Paddy's influence on the game was immediate. He drifted past a couple of defenders into Partick's box where his path was blocked by dark who was booked for his trouble before Scott Crabbe netted what was to be our only penalty conversion of the entire season. Despite the one way traffic towards Murdoch in Thistle's goal, the score remained like that at half-time even though we did get the ball in the net. Unfortunately the referee didn't see it! John dark flicked on a Michael O'Neill corner. Duncan Ferguson powered in a header which Murdoch saved and the ball ran loose to Paddy Connolly who hammered the ball against the stanchion. To everyone's astonishment the referee waved play on and to add insult to injury dark had picked the ball up as it emerged from the net and handed it back to his keeper! Fortunately in the context of the match this omission had no bearing.
Justice was served by Paddy Connolly scoring twice within the space of eight minutes in the second half. Duncan Ferguson celebrated his return with the fourth goal as he headed the ball over the advancing Murdoch from Alan Main's long up field punt.
