For the third consecutive match the Tannadice starting eleven showed no change as we set out to atone for our cup defeat. Clearly there was never any question of that disappointment as we almost went ahead after only 8 minutes. John Clark's free-kick was nodded on by Duncan Ferguson and Paddy Connolly took advantage of hesitancy in the Dons' defence, but his shot flashed past. Aberdeen's only threat of the first period came from two penalty claims. The first for a push on Shearer and the second when Mixu Paatelainen went down following a challenge by Mark Perry. However, sandwiched between those two claims was the nearest either side actually came to scoring. Michael O'Neill's cleanly struck volley was obviously net-bound until Mason cleared it off the line.
Apart from a header from Mixu Paatelainen brushing the crossbar towards the end, neither side looked like breaking the deadlock in the latter stages.
