Match Report

United relinquished their unbeaten record in pre-season games against a Blackpool side playing their first game since winning the Anglo-ltalian tournament, but not even their staunchest fans could have envisaged a result favouring the home side.

After a goal-less first half during which United played some beautiful man-to man football the Tangerines found themselves a goal down within 35 seconds of the re-start. Craven flinging himself to head home from a Tony Green cross at the far post. Nine minutes later Craven headed in a second, this time from a Tommy Hutchison cross. Against the run of play United lost a third goal when the lanky Tommy Hutchison intercepted a short pass-back to score. Tommy Traynor grabbed United's consolation goal ten minutes from the end when he hastened on to a rebound and lashed the ball home from 20 yards.
