Manager Jim McLeans first full season in charge kicked off with a three match tour of the South of England. Selhurst Park was the venue for the first action of a new season after an arduous pre-season. On the face of it, defeat at the hands of the English First Division side plus draws at Bournemouth and the now defunct Guildford City may not appear a roaring success, but despite those results the new Tannadice boss was more than happy with the vast improvement shown in the side's play over the previous season. The only defeat came in that match against Crystal Palace on 29th July. Substitute Archie Knox's 72nd minute goal was by way of no more than a consolation counter in a 3-1 reversal.
