With the harsh weather claiming our League fixture at Cappielow, the elements in the east had been somewhat milder and allowed us to go ahead with a friendly at Arbroath. As United began to strike their rhythm, they went ahead in the 29th minute, when Maurice Malpas ended a fine three-man move, involving himself, Ralph Milne and Paul Sturrock, by slipping the ball past Jackson. It was on the hour mark before United notched a second. John Holt's fine run to the bye-line ended with Paul Sturrock tapping in.
In the 65th minute Eamonn Bannon picked up a loose ball and his low cross was sidefooted in by Maurice Malpas for his second. Eamonn Bannon scored the 4th from close range in the 73rd minute after good close control by Maurice Malpas. Then with five minutes left, substitute Davie Dodds scored the fifth with a diving header from a Paul Sturrock cross. And with Just two minutes remaining, Paul Sturrock ran on to a Dave Beaumont header to beat .Jackson to complete the scoring. A crowd of 1,345, Arbroath's biggest of the season, enjoyed this entertaining friendly placed in ideal conditions.
