Match Report

United lay fifth in Division Two while Queen's Park were an established mid-table club in Division One. The Glasgow side took the lead after 20 minutes through John Dodds but United went ahead with 32 minutes three minutes later United equalised played when Smith scored but six when Jimmy Smith's penalty was saved minutes before half-time Dodds made and Arthur Milne netted the rebound, it 2-2. Mid-way through the second half United regained the lead when Milne grabbed his second and eight minutes later he made it a hat-trick. Two minutes after that the 20-year old got his fourth, and only a further two minutes had passed when Jimmy Smith scored from the spot. That meant United had scored three in four minutes and four in eleven! Dodds completed what must have been one of the least celebrated hat-tricks ever, for an incredible final score of 6-3. United lost to Hearts in the next round, though only after extra-time in a replay.
