Match Report

Love Street is rapidly becoming an unhappy ground for United, and this latest visit provided a real dent to United's title aspirations.

The decisive goal arose in controversial circumstances when a Saints' defender was lying injured in an offside position as play carried on. Scanlon worked his way to the bye-line, crossed but Billy Thomson failed to hold the greasy ball and Frank McAvennie was lying handy to score.

We had opened brightly enough and both Davie Dodds and Ralph Milne had gone close. Just on the interval a Davie Dodds shot was blocked by Campbell Money. Despite controlling long periods of the second half Saints' defence was in danger of being breached as faltered to their second successive league defeat.
