Dundee United put the Warriors through their paces at Ochilview. And if the margin was slender there was no doubt about the visitors being the more skilful side. Gray missed a penalty for the homesters, but against that United might well have gained another two goals but for their keeper's remarkable clearances of shots from White and Gardiner.
Tannadice newcomers did well. Miller, from Bristol City, was an energetic right-back; Glen, ex-Raith, was lively on the right wing; and Gardiner was often in the limelight. Baxter did not always look too happy at centre, but he got the all-important goal to pay his way.
Smith, in goal, was in particularly fine form, and stop-gap pivot Black did well in perhaps the hardest job of all in defence - watching Rodi, ex-Montrose centre, who led the home attack. United certainly seem to have the makings of a more than useful side.
