Match Report

Twice the Dons have been soundly whipped at Tannadice this season, surely their bogy ground. Dundee United's 4-1 lead in Saturday's cup final carries the black-and-whites to the second game at Pittodrie this week with a gilt edged chance of landing the trophy. Already they have three goals in the net. The result pleased the most sanguine United supporters. Indeed, at the interval, with the teams sharing two goals and United having just deplorably failed with a penalty, he would have been a bold man to prophesy United's second half rampage. Inspired by the genius of little Bobby Gardiner and the dashing persistence of soldier Juliussen. United simply brushed aside the more orthodox football style of the Dons. First Bobby Gardiner and then Albert Juliussen rattled the netting. Then it was just a question of whether United would get any more. United's greatest winning factors were trio Gardiner, Juliussen and Ross. Wee Bobby, Tannadice hero of many a tie, never proved himself masterly, more cool, more calculating. Albert Juliussen shot with the kick of a mule. John Ross was beautifully tended by Gardiner and responded with a heroic display.
