United enjoyed better success on their travels to Stirling than they did a fortnight ago in Coatbridge, as they recorded their first and only away win during October. It was a sore one for the home side as the game also marked the opening of a new extended grandstand at Forthbank, and the 4,000 admitted made up a record attendance for King's Park. Following on from generous hospitality shown by the Stirling club's board, the game was played in great sporting spirit, albeit largely in United's favour. For a good part of the first half, Arnott in goal for the Forthbank men thwarted the attempts of Geordie Henderson, Harry Michie and Donald Hutchison. At the other end, Toner was unlucky not to get on the end of an Anderson pass as Harry McGregor easily gathered. This was perhaps Kings' best chance of a goalless first half.
Kings nearly shocked United with a chance early on in the second period but McGregor was alive to Toner's headed effort. Before long, United had taken the lead, and the opener came from a counter-attack. A fast cross from David Forward was expertly diverted into the net by Duncan Hutchison, leaving Arnott with no chance from 25 yards out. Moments later, Hutchison was involved in the creation of the second goal for United. As the ball dropped in front of goal, both he and Johnny Hart raced for the ball. As Hart fell, Hutchison carried himself forward to score. Harry McGregor proved a late hero for United with two fine saves from Toner and Tallis, the later also striking the bar, but there was to be no consolation for Kings.
