Tuesday 28th July saw United open their Forfarshire Cup campaign down at Links Park and the match was a personal triumph for newcomer Hamish French.
Making his debut in Scotland in tangerine after playing in Norway, the former Keith striker scored four and it could very easily have been more.
He opened the scoring after five minutes, heading in Alan Irvine's cross at the far post. His second on the stroke of half-time was a strike from the edge of the box. He notched his hat-trick in the 53rd minute with a header from a Kevin Gallacher cross. Ian Redford got in on the act, scoring via a post after good interplay with Dave Narey. Les Barr pulled one back from
the penalty spot, but United's continued domination and Hamish French hammered the ball into the roof of the net for his fourth of the match after 77 minutes.
Two minutes later Maurice Malpas was upended in the box and Ian Redford converted the penalty to complete the scoring.
