Match Report

United's whirlwind start to this match carried them into a three goal lead with less than half an hour played. However, the Tangerines took their foot of the pedal and never recaptured that form to emerge only victors by the narrowest of margins. Gary McSwegan bundled a Jamie McQuilken cross over the line after eleven minutes and ten minutes later, the United scorer was upended outside the box and Owen Coyle curled the free-kick round the wall and past John Donegan in goal. Gary McSwegan's second four minutes later came when he wheeled to send a right foot shot into the far corner. At that stage, a handsome victory appeared to be on the cards, but Forfar hit back with Mark Perry and Dave Bowman clearing home efforts off the line in the run up to the interval.

Andy Morgan pulled the first back for Forfar with a dipping 25 harder and two minutes later, Gary Higgins netted from 6 yards to further reduce the arrears. United did hit back with Donegan making three great saves within a minute, but had in the end to be content with a single goal victory.
