Match Report

The 'League of Nations' team from Texas had seven nationalities in the side for this friendly match in front of just 2,000 fans.

Tornado started off true to their name and had United on the back foot from the start. With only 8 minutes gone, big dutchman Liotart took a pass from Hungarian team mate Mitic and fired home from over 20 yards into the roof of the net. Mitchell went close for United soon after but Mitic also had the home fans cover their eyes when he shot just past. Cameron then had a header touched onto the bar by the 'keeper. Three minutes later the equaliser came from a penalty. It was Dennis Gillespie who calmly slotted the spot kick home after Wilson was downed by Renshaw. United took the lead four minutes from the interval when Ian Scott bulleted the ball into the net following a Wilson corner.

United lost their lead after only 7 minutes of the second half. Mitic was put clean through by Leotart and the centre scored with a good shot past Mackay. United pulled themselves back into the lead after 60 minutes when MArkland and Henry combined to set up Kenny Cameron to score with a low shot from 8 yards. Tornado pushed United all the way but could not get the elusive equaliser.
