Without an away win, for over eight months United travelled to Shawfield with little more than hope after a spell which had seen them slump into fourth bottom spot in the table. And who was the man who dealt United yet another blow to their abysmal away form — none other than JIM McLEAN ! ! ! The then Clyde midfield man struck the two goals which sealed United's fate, netting his first in 25 minutes and the other in 67 minutes from a Sam Hastings pass. Donald Mackay saved what looked certain to be his hat-trick in the game or we would never have heard the end of it!!
