Match Report

United continued their good start to the season by advancing to the final of the Dewar Shield with a 3-1 win over Division Two rivals East Stirlingshire thanks to another Duncan Hutchison hat-trick.

The visitors took the lead after four minutes through Doherty but following a period of settling, United equalised, Hutchison scoring the first of his three getting on the end of a cross from John Bain. Within two minutes of that goal, new signing Geordie Henderson carried the ball to the goal line before squaring across the face of Gray in the East Stirling goal for Hutchison to head home for the lead and his second. Almost immediately following the interval, Hutchison notched his treble, slotting home from a low ball placed by Jacky Kay.
