Match Report

United arrived at Motherwell on the back of a good draw at Parkhead looking to build a run of good results.

United started this match as if they meant business and early on it was Ciftci forced Gunnar Nielsen to punched clear a cross and Ryan Gauld was waiting at the edge of the box to slam home. Paul Paton was next on the scoresheet when he leapt to head home from the six-yard line after more good work by Ciftci. United did have the ball in the net again but the offside flag cut short Robertson's celebrations after he had converted a Gauld pass. Sutton came close for Motherwell when he tested Radoslaw Cierzniak with a low drive. United were looking insatiable and Nielsen had to go down at the feet of Mackay-Steven after the winger had stormed through on goal. Ciftci again came close as United looked to kill the game before half-time.

Motherwell came out battling in the second half and a Lasley volley dropped wide of Cierzniak's goal before Henri Anier was crowded out after pressure from United defenders. McNamara's men got going again and Robertson's deflected shot was touched on to the bar by Nielsen at full stretch. And, after being played in by a neat Ciftci's pass, Ryan Gauld crashed in his second and soon took the acclaim of the visiting fans as he was replaced by Brian Graham. Substitute David Goodwillie tested Nielsen before Andy Robertson wrapped up the scoring in time added on when his rifled shot from the corner of the box shot into the far corner.
